A FLY FISHING EXPERIENCE

Bring your own rod or hire one of ours!

Any fisherman is just about guaranteed to catch a fish in one of our dams. Part of the refurbishment of Sandile’s Rest included cleaning and re-stocking our two dams, so all fishing is on a catch and release basis for now. Our trout will still be small but with time we plan to create a fly-fisherman’s dream.

Enquire at reception about permits for dams nearby and scroll down for more info!

Gubu Dam

Gubu Dam (109 Ha) – 13.8 km drive.

Gubu Dam is best suited to the more serious fly fishermen and especially those who like the challenge of ‘big’ water.

It is easily accessible to the bank angler with rainbow trout being the primary catch, though there is always the chance for a monster brown.

Bring a kick boat for Gubu if you have one, as no motor boats are allowed on the dam.

Maden Dam

Maden Dam (9Ha) – 29.7 km drive.

Maden Dam lies in a beautiful, heavily wooded valley on the headwaters of the Buffalo River.

It has a good head of rainbow trout (and very rarely, the odd wild brown) that are often a little easier than at Gubu Dam.

Bring your kick boat for Maden as a lot of the bank is lined by indigenous forest.
